Executive Director Michael Aller, participated in the Additive Manufacturing Standardization Collaborative forum held during the RAPID 3D and TCT additive manufacturing conference and tradeshow in Pittsburgh PA, from May 8-11 2017. The Energy Florida team has been identifying and outlining key opportunities and challenges in the implementation of additive manufacturing on behalf of the gas turbine design, engineering, manufacturing and maintenance industries.

Energy Florida is working in support of the advanced cryogenic storage tank development and demonstration project funded by the Department of Energy’s Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy division and is leveraging Kennedy Space Center’s Cryogenic Test Laboratory personnel and resources to develop an innovative cryogenic storage tank solution for hydrogen fuel cell and liquefied natural gas vehicles. The project team is currently identifying and testing appropriate insulation materials for use in the first stage prototype fabrication and testing.
Energy Florida is working with regional partners across the southeast United States including Oak Ridge National Lab, the Electric Power Research Institute, Georgia Tech, and others to propose the development of an energy ecosystem support network across the Southeast region, with funding provided by the US Department of Energy in a variety of other partners.
Energy Florida has supported national dialogues on advanced manufacturing for power & propulsion, Washington DC in March and April 2017, also participated in Florida Space Day in Tallahassee in early March 2017
Energy Florida coordinated a series of webinars and forums assisting US turbine industry participants in understanding and coordinating effort for funding opportunities offered by the US Department of Energy Advanced Manufacturing office under the Advanced Manufacturing Areas for Emerging Research funding opportunity. That outreach resulted in more than 15 concept papers being submitted on behalf of turbine industry stakeholders for that funding opportunity, including three by partnerships directly coordinated by Energy Florida.
Energy Florida submitted a grant application for the U.S. Department of Energy Innovative Pathways for energy commercialization funding opportunity, a GenConnect- CHPConnect project to support small and midsize businesses to connect with larger organizations in the power generation equipment industry.
